MYTH: You Should Eat Many Small Meals Throughout The Day

A common Belief that you should eat many small meals throughout the day in order to “keep metabolism high” is a persistent myth that is NOT based on scientific evidence.

zucchinicupIt is true that eating raises your metabolism slightly while you’re digesting the meal, but it’s the total amount of food that determines the energy used, NOT the number of meals.

This has actually been put to the test and refuted multiple times. Controlled studies where one group eats many small meals and the other the same amount of food in fewer meals show that there is literally no difference between the two (12).

In fact, one study in obese men revealed that eating 6 meals per day led to less feelings of fullness compared to 3 meals (3).

Not only is eating so often practically useless for most of the people out there, it may even be harmful.

It is not natural for the human body to be constantly in the fed state. In nature, we used to fast from time to time and we didn’t eat nearly as often as we do today.

When we don’t eat for a while, a cellular process called autophagy cleans waste products out of our cells (4). Fasting or not eating from time to time is good for you.

Several observational studies show a drastically increased risk of colon cancer (4th most common cause of cancer death), numbers going as high as a 90% increase for those who eat 4 meals per day compared to 2 (567).

Bottom Line: There is no evidence that eating many small meals throughout the day is better than fewer, bigger meals. Not eating from time to time is good for you. Increased meal frequency is associated with colon cancer.

Drink soda and get fat and old… fast!

If you’ve read health magazines and websites for any length of time, you’ve read a litany of reasons why soda is bad for you. It’s nothing but sugar water. It’s devoid of any nutritional value. In addition to obesity and diabetes, it leads to accelerated aging!

Diet or regular, all colas contain phosphates, or phosphoric acid, a weak acid that gives colas their tangy flavor and improves their shelf life. Although it exists in other foods, like meat and dairy, too much phosphoric acid can lead to heart and kidney problems, muscle loss, and osteoporosis, and one study suggests it could trigger accelerated aging. The study, published in a 2010 issue of the FASEB Journal, found that the excessive phosphate levels found in sodas caused lab rats to die a full five weeks earlier than the rats whose diets had more normal phosphate levels—a disturbing trend considering that soda manufacturers have increased the levels of phosphoric acid in their products over the past few decades.

Additionally, Danish researchers discovered that drinking non-diet soda leads to dramatic increases in fat buildup around your liver and your skeletal muscles, both of which can contribute to insulin resistance and diabetes. It’s not surprising that drinking all the sugar in sodas would cause weight gain, but what is surprising is that even diet soda will pack on the pounds: Researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center monitored 475 adults for 10 years, and found that those who drank diet soda had a 70 percent increase in waist circumference over the 10-year study, compared with those who didn’t drink any soda. Those who drank more than two diet sodas per day saw a 500 percent waist expansion!

A Paradigm Shift in Natural Skin Care… SKIN all natural™ Dares To Be Different

Have you ever wondered why almost all skin care products, including those claiming to be natural, are white in color and has smooth, silky texture?

bleached white lotion

Most natural ingredients, like essential oils (cold pressed from plants), herbs and botanical extracts are not naturally white… or clear in color. So it begs the question, how are all these non-white inputs combined to create a pure white and silky lotions and creams?

The answer: These pure white so-called natural skin care products, or the ingredients used in them are highly processed with the use of chemicals and bleaching agents. We already know that white bleached flour is chemically processed, stripped off its nutrients and should be avoided. Isn’t the same valid for skin care products? Especially when we know that over 60% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed and ends up in our blood stream!

Additionally, their ingredients, although derived from plant, are isolated from its natural source in a laboratory and synthetically mass produced. When you tear apart a naturally occurring compound, you are necessarily stripping it of its inherent balance and natural synergy. Isolated, it may give you a certain desired benefit, but the price is many, sometimes hidden, undesirable effects in the long run. In addition, synthetically producing these chemicals alters its bio-availability.

So the next time you find yourself staring at a perfectly white and silky cream, that claims to be all natural, ask yourself if the product matches the claim.

Concerned with the utmost safety of their consumers and the integrity of their active ingredients, SKIN all natural™ formulators utilize full spectrum (whole) botanical ingredients. Their formulations are pH balanced and optimized for maximum bio-availability and efficacy. In avoiding all harmful additives, they take pride in the natural hues and earthy fragrances inherent in their unbleached, unprocessed, and unadulterated products.

Harmful ingredient: sodium benzoate

At a cursory glance, sodium benzoate doesn’t seem that harmful. It is found naturally occurring in many plants, such as cranberries.

But check your skin care labels. When added to any form of vitamin C, of which there are many in lotions, the two ingredients form benzene. And benzene is a carcinogenic.

Even when isolated from vitamin C, it may not be that benign. Professor Piper, of Sheffield University, UK, studied this substance and found that it can damage cells. He tested benzoate on yeast cells (which are similar to human ones) and found that it caused an increase in the production of free radicals. A free radical is an unbounded oxygen molecule that can wreak havoc on your body. ripping other cells apart. The study found that benzoate attacks the cells’ mitochondria, damaging their ability to prevent oxygen leaks that cause these radicals to enter your body.
